Starfish

This week our story was ‘What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside’ by Julia Donaldson.  After listening to the story we wrote about what some of the animals did such as  ‘The crab went snap.’ ‘The sealion roared.’ We drew pictures of the animals in the story.

After that we used ribbons on sticks to recreate the flight path of the ladybird.  It was great fun twirling the sticks.  We then had a go at writing our name in the air.

In the story the two bad men fill sacks with seaweed which they think is the mermaid’s hair.  We collected lots of seaweed in sacks and weighed them to see which was the heaviest.  After that the nursery children did some counting and the Reception children continued with learning about subtraction.

In the story it’s twelve o’clock when Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len go to steal the mermaid’s hair.  We made a big clock in the sand and made twelve o’clock.  We then practised making different o’clock times.  Before we went to the golf club for lunch we did some yoga.  We are getting really good at balancing!

After lunch we went back to the beach.  The waves were huge this afternoon so we spend some time watching, listening and counting the waves.  We heard the story again and made some mermaids in the sand.
