Attendance

As a school we place a strong emphasis on attendance.  It is recognised that poor attendance is linked to worse outcomes at school.  In this school we will alert parents to their child's attendance if it drops below 96% over a rolling 12-month period.  96% equates to 8 days off school in a 12-month period.

Parents of children who drop below 92% will be required to demonstrate evidence that there is a medical reason for them being off.

When attendance drops below 90% the headteacher will consider whether to involve the Education Welfare Service in supporting attendance to get better.  Parents will be invited in for a meeting with the headteacher to establish why their child is off so frequently and to see if there are things that can be put in place to support attendance.  Penalties may be issued as a result of attendance issues.

Children whose miss 10 sessions (1/2 days) without authorisation within a 10-week rolling period may be referred to the Education Welfare Service.

Children whose attendance drops below 80% will be referred to the Education Welfare Service.

Children are deemed to be late if they arrive at school after the gates have been closed.  They will be marked as late in the register.  If a child is late on more than 5 occasions in a half term their parents will be invited in for a meeting with the headteacher to establish if there are things that can be put in place to support arriving on time.  Children using school transport will not be marked as late, even if the transport is late.

Parents are required to fill in a google form for any planned absences.  If this is for a holiday this will only be authorised in very exceptional circumstances.  Please speak to the school office if you require a form.
