Starfish

We continued with our story 'Splash, Anna Hibiscus' by Atinuke at the beach today.  After reading the story we wrote a list of all the things that Anna Hibiscus's family were doing that they thought were more important than splashing in the waves with Anna.
After our writing we did some RWI.  The Reception children wrote the sounds they had been learning this week and did read some green words.  The nursery children stamped out some cvc words.
We then did some maths.  The Reception children used a hundred square to identify and find two digit numbers.  They also did some adding and subtracting using a hundred square.  The Nursery children collected shells and counted them into their buckets.  They also made some numbers in the sand.
In the story Anna splashes in the waves.  We didn't splash in the waves but we did dig holes that filled with water to splash in!  We investigated whether one foot or two feet made a bigger splash and if we ran and jumped in our water we splashed more.
The last thing we did today was to use the water colours to paint a beach scene in our books.  We did some brilliant paintings!
Puffins

Our week at beach school has been filled with exciting learning experiences! We began with a focus on water safety during Worship, taking shelter from the gusty winds behind the dunes. After that, we unleashed our creativity by painting watercolours of a section of the beach. Delving into poetry, we explored 'The Shadow', memorising the first two stanzas and adding actions for extra engagement. We then split into Year 1 and Year 2 groups for maths activities - Year 1 concentrated on half-turns and full turns, while Year 2 tackled telling the time. Observing our own shadows, we pondered on why they change throughout the day. Later, we engaged in discussions about the Olympic games and enjoyed a stroll around Dunstan Steads.
