We started off Beach school this week with the Children’s Cancer run.  I was super impressed with everyone’s stamina and determination!  Well done everyone for completing the race!

After a quick refresh with an ice pop at the golf club we headed down to the beach to begin our lessons.  We started off by discussing the General Election.  We talked about what a manifesto is, why they are needed and discussed some ideas about what people might include in theirs.  I then tasked the children to write their own manifestos before asking them to present their manifestos to the rest of the group.  The children presented themselves very well and I was impressed with some of the ideas they came up with.  Once the children had presented their manifestos they all voted for their best candidate.  After this they had a short playtime before heading to the golf club for our lunch.  After lunch we went back down to the beach and had Worship by the Waves before sketching the sea and beach ready for some Anglo-Saxon boats next week.  We finished off the day with some PE.  We practised our throwing and catching skills with a partner before some playing some whole class circle games.  It was so much fun and thank you for letting me join you today Seals.

We began beach school today with our Children's Cancer Run.  We did a great job of running down to the beach and enjoyed a tasty ice pop when we finished.

We continued our book ‘Splash, Anna Hibiscus’ by Atinuke’ at beach school this week.

In the story Anna is barefoot.  We all took our shoes and socks off and felt the sand with our feet.  It was warm on top but when we buried our feet the sand was cold underneath.  We then spoke about how Anna shouldn’t have gone into the sea on her own and how dangerous it could have been.  We looked at some beach pictures that were safe and unsafe and then wrote about a way to keep safe on the beach.

After that we used the buckets to make a city scape just like the city near Anna Hibiscus’s beach in Africa.  We drew some roads to join our buildings together.

It was getting a bit windy so we moved into the sand dunes for our next activity which was to look at a world map to find out where Africa is.  We spoke about how Africa is a continent with 54 different countries.  We also looked at some photographs of different beaches in Africa and spoke about how they were similar and different to our beach.

Before we went back to school we went for a walk in the dunes and did some yoga.  We also found a long piece of wood that we used to balance along.
