Our first full week back and lots of learning has been taking place.  We are beginning to get settled into new routines and groups.  We started our phonics sessions again this week as well as our big maths groups.  We have been focusing a lot of handwriting and presentation of our work this week – hoping that we get it right from the start.

We also welcomed Sam back on Monday to do our PE sessions – this was a nice surprise for the children.  The children listened to Sam’s instructions and participated well.

In Maths the Year 2s have been looking at place value and especially numbers up 100.  We ordered them, partitioned them and made them using a variety of different resources.  The Year 1s have been sorting objects into groups.  We looked at our new class text this week too – but only the front cover with no title.  We were trying to use the picture to predict what we think the story might be about.  We were also learning when to use a capital letter and full stop.  We edited some work to make sure they were in the correct places.

We have also been learning how to log on correctly to ipads and chrome books, use the correct musical language, especially pulse and tempo and in PSHE we talked about our families and how they are all different and unique.  In design technology we were doing some research about chairs.  We were looking at pictures of chairs already available on the market and deciding if we would buy it and if so why.  We were looking at words such as comfortable, sturdy, strong or soft.

We had no promotions in Big Maths but I gave out so many certificates to children that had got 10/10 or had improved their scores from last week – a great start to the term!  I am guessing it won’t be long until there are some promotions!

Our RE theme this term is 'How should we care for the world and others, and why does it matter?'.  We listened to the Christian Bible story about when the children went to see Jesus.  We thought about how we are all special and how we should treat others.  We used the words unique, valuable and care when talking about and sharing with each other what we could do.

Mrs Threlfall chose the Puffin star of the week this week – she chose ARCHIE.  She said that Archie had made such a positive start to Year 2 and was just getting on with tasks straight away.  Well done Archie.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.
