Our story this week is ‘The Bog Baby’ by Jeanne Willis this week.  The story is about two sisters who go fishing to the magic pond, they find something much better than a frog or a newt. They find a bog baby. Small and blue with wings like a dragon, the girls decide to make him their secret.  But the bog baby is a wild thing, and when he becomes poorly, the girls decide they must tell their mum. And she tells them the greatest lesson, if you really love something, you have to let it go.

Our Rainbow challenges this week have been:

In maths this week the Reception children have been visualising from different positions, describing positions and giving instructions.  The Nursery children have been learning about what numbers come before.

This week in Read, Write Inc. the Reception children have been learning the same sound, different spelling.  Some of the Nursery children have been recapping the sounds they have learnt and have used magnetic letters to make words.    The other Nursery children have continued to listen to the difference in jungle animal sounds.

On Monday we had a fantastic visit to Alnwick Gardens.  We had such a lot of fun playing in the water features!  We then had a walk around the gardens and looked at the beautiful plants and flowers.  We discussed how plants need water to grow.

On Wednesday afternoon it was sports day.  All the Starfish did a brilliant job of following the instructions for the races and all tried their very best.

In our story this week the girls loved the Bog Baby so much.  We thought about who and what we loved so much and wrote a list.  We also thought about how the characters we feeling and what they might say.  The Reception children wrote speech bubbles for the characters. We also went to the quarry to see if we could find any of our own Bog Babies.  We looks hard but we couldn't see any.

Next week our story will be ‘Billy’s Bucket’ by Kes Gray.
