This week our story was ‘Toot and Pop’ by Sebastien Braun.  Pop the tiny tug boat works hard every day, helping all the big boats at the harbour. That is, until the day a huge new ship, Toot, is launched, who doesn't want help from anyone - especially Pop! But Toot finds himself in terrible danger and only little Pop can help.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story.

Writing – Nursery: Write about what a tug boat does.  Tell an adult what your writing says Reception: Write about what a tug boat does.  Use the sounds you know in your writing

Drawing – Follow the instructions to draw a tug boat

Maths – Nursery: Find something that is heavier and something that is lighter than the boat Reception: Find out how many cubes the boat weighs

Playdough – Nursery: Use the playdough to make Toot and Pop Reception: Use the playdough to make Toot and Pop and write a label with their names

Creative – Nursery: Use the recycled materials to make a boat Reception: Use the recycled materials to make a boat and write a list of what you have used

Outside – Make and float a tin foil boat.  Make and float a tin foil boat and see how many marbles it takes to sink your boat

Funky Fingers – Nursery: Put the spots on the boat Reception: Use two different coloured spots to make a pattern on the boat

In RWInc the Reception children have read the purple ditty book ‘Tag’ and have continued to recap all the Set 2 sounds.  Some of the nursery children have been learning about the sound ‘c’ and have been playing initial sound games.  The other nursery children have been playing sound games, making different sounds for the story.

In maths the Reception children have been continuing learning about 2d flat and 3d solid shapes.  The nursery children have been learning about heavier and lighters and some nursery children have been subitising and comparing amounts and lengths. We have also been using Numicon to make boat shapes.

This week in music, as part of our ‘Musical Stories’ we used continued to use instruments to represent actions.  This week we improved on our composition form last week.   In Science this week we have been looking at different types of machines and mechanisms.  We had a go at making our own cranes.  It was great fun using them to move things!  With Miss Murray we continued to focus on listening really carefully.  This week we did a blindfold walk helping our friends by telling them were to go.   We also had a visit from Trinity Tots this week.  We loved having the babies and younger children to talk to and play with.

Our big RE question this half term is ‘Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?’.  This week we though about why we give chocolate eggs at Easter.  We found out that eggs are a sign of new life and also that sometimes chocolate eggs are empty and to some Christians that reminds them of the empty tomb on Easter Sunday.

Starfish star of the week was George.  He has been doing a lot of practising of writing a ‘G’ for his name.

Next week we will be having an Easter themed week.
