In RWInc the Reception children have been recapping all the sounds learnt so far.  We have been practising reading and writing words using the sounds we know and writing short phrases.  The nursery children have been focusing on sounds we can hear in the house.  In maths the Reception children have been learning about patterns and the Nursery children have been continuing with sorting.

In Music this week we have been exploring environmental sounds.  We listened to cars, sirens, thunder and other sounds that might be heard outside.  In PE with Sam we were practising throwing and catching.  On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Brealey comes into Starfish class and this week we found out about our sense of smell.  We smelt lots of different things and we loved exploring the citrus fruit in the tuff tray!  Some of us also sewed some capes for superheroes this week.  Our poem this week was ‘Mrs Bluebird’ it was a much shorter poem this week and some of the children has already learnt it by Tuesday!

What a great job Starfish did at our harvest festival.  They remembered all the words to our poem.  They tried hard to sing all the harvest songs and sat so well throughout the service - well done everyone!

Our RE question this week was ‘Where do you belong? How do some Muslims welcome a baby into their family?’.  We found out that they whisper ‘God is great. There is no God but Allah’ into the baby’s ear.  These are the first words a baby should hear.  We thought about why they whispered and didn’t shout, did it matter that the baby didn’t understand and what would we whisper in a new born baby’s ear.

This week two of starfish class went to the mobile library with Mrs Cotton and Miss Crowe.  They chose lots of super books for our classroom and even got to date stamp the books!  Everyone loved the musical recital by Stephen and Sophie playing their cello and violin.  They told us lots of information about their instruments and the music they played.

Starfish star of the week was Annie.  She has been brilliant at learning the sounds in RWInc.

Next week our story will be ‘Charlie’s Superhero Underpants’ by Paul Bright and Lee Wildish.
