Wow!  What a cold, wintery week we have had!  We abandoned all lessons on Wednesday morning and had a lovely time in the snow.   We donned our waterproofs, hats, gloves, scarves, coats and wellies and headed out into the snow.  We made snowballs, snowmen and did snow angels.  We only came in because our feet were cold and the hot chocolate was ready!

We also looked at the next few pages of the class text in English to see if we were given any more clues as to what kind of character Rocket is.  We also met her big brother, who is always on his phone, and her Mum.  We found out that Rocket is a bit of a daydreamer and is always wishing she was somewhere else.  We made some notes on places we wish we were at instead of school!

In maths, the Year 2s were looking at 2 digit subtract 1 digit by exchanging.  We used place value counters to help us before moving on to pen and paper methods, using columns.  The Year 1s were adding 2 numbers together using part whole models and tens frames to help them.

Our computing this week focused on recreating Piet Mondrian’s work using the line and fill tool on the PaintZ programme.  In art we made a clay tile and practised applying our skills of working ‘in relief’ and ‘impressing’ into the clay.  We chose a range of objects to make marks in the clay to see which ones gave us the best results.  We also practised the ‘slip and score’ method of joining on extra pieces of clay.  In history we were being real historian’s and looked at a range of different sources of evidence to see if we could answer some questions about the fire.  We wanted to know when the fire happened, where exactly in London the fire started and how the fire began.  Using our enquiry skills we were fortunate enough to find the answers to all of these questions and more.  We also managed to find out how long the fire burned for.

In RE we thought about what the good news for Christians is in the Christmas story.  We heard about the angels telling the shepherds about the birth of Jesus.  We also began to learn about what advent is.

STAR OF THE WEEK this week went to PENNY.  Penny has been following Embleton Expects and has been a brilliant buddy to her peers, helping them without being asked.  Well done Penny.

BIG MATHS promotions this week also went to PENNY!  What a week you are having!  Super job.

Have a good weekend everyone, and stay safe if Storm Bert decides to visit!
