We had quite a good week again with children completing all their Rainbow Challenges – well done!
In RWInc the Reception children have read the pink ditty book ‘The Dressing Up Box’ and have been learning the sounds ‘er’ and ‘ur’. Some of the nursery children have been learning about the sound ‘e’ and have been playing initial sound and rhyming games. The other nursery children have been learning about firefighters and have been playing sound games and activities related to this.
In maths the Reception children have been learning about adding subtracation. The nursery children have continue to learn about adding. Some nursery children have continued to learn about positional language using the story ‘Rosie’s Walk’.
Our Science this half term is ‘Plants’. This week we have been learning about food that comes from plants. In the story this week Oliver eats pea soup. We wanted to make some soup so we made a list of vegetables for our soup. We made soup with potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage and peas. It was delicious and some Starfish had two bowls of soup!
Our big RE question this half term is ‘Which stories are special and why?’. This week we listened to the story of ‘Rama and Sita’ which is a special story for Hindu’s. It reminds them light will overcome darkness. We made special diva lamps similar to the ones that Hindu’s use at Divali.
Starfish star of the week was Rhea. She has been doing a great job of remembering the sounds we are learning.
Next term we will start our new theme ‘Come with us to…..’. We will begin our new theme with the story ‘The Everywhere Bear’ by Julia Donaldson.
