On Monday our nursery rhyme was ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. We did lots of spider themed activities. We used tweezers to stick pom pom flies onto a web in the tuff tray, we made webs using wool and paper plates, we made playdough spiders and we used step by step drawing instructions to draw a spider and a web. Some children labelled a spider and lots of us made a magnetic spider going up and down a drain pipe. We all enjoyed spider sandwiches (!) for our snack and did lots of counting to eight each time we needed to do spider legs.
On Monday we also watched the CBeebies Remembrance animation ‘Poppies’. Followed by two minutes silence. Starfish did an amazing job of being quiet and thoughtful.
Five little ducks went swimming one day was our Nursery rhyme on Tuesday. We made some paper plate mummy ducks with five baby ducks on her back, we played with ducks in the tuff tray, we drew ducks following step by step instructions, we retold the rhyme using masks, we sang the rhyme using picture cards taking one away each time and found different ways of making five. For our snack today we made banana ducks! Also on Tuesday Mrs Brearley came in and we learnt about different animal homes. Some of us made our own animal homes using different resources.
We had two nursery rhymes on Wednesday, ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’ and ‘Three Blind Mice’. We found out about o’clock time and made some mice run and down our clocks, we made shape mice using triangles and circles and practising our scissor skills by cutting string mice tails. We enjoyed some tasty strawberries for our snack today which we made look like mice by adding strawberry lace tails! In the afternoon Miss Murray came in and we spoke about special people in our lives.
On Thursday our class was full of different nursery rhyme characters as the children came into school dressed up! Our nursery rhyme of the day was ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’. In the tuff tray today we had some bags to fill with wool to give to the master, the dame and the little boy. We drew a sheep following step by step instructions, looked at some photos of some black sheep that one of Starfish had put on Tapestry, we watched a video of sheep being sheared, we sequenced pictures from the rhyme created a sheep made from blackberries for our snack.
In RE today we retold the Christmas story using tunes to nursery rhymes with the words telling the story. We sang ‘Special News’ (London Bridge), Do you have a place to stay? (Do you know the muffin man?), Sing a song of Shepherds (Sing a song of sixpence), Ride, ride, ride your camel (Row, row, row you boat) and Three Wise Men (Hot cross buns).
Our star of the week was Kalani. She did some brilliant counting to eight when making Incy Wincy Spiders legs.
Next week our story will be ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ by Giles Andreae.
