Our book this week has been ‘Little Robin Red Vest’ by Jan Fernley.  This story is set a week before Christmas and Little Robin has everything ready, including a nice warm vest for each frosty day. But Little Robin didn't count on meeting seven chilly friends, and his generosity gets the best of him as he shares his vests with the animals he meets. With no vest left for himself, poor little Robin huddles on an icy roof until someone very special comes to the rescue……

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this book:

Writing – Nursery: Write some days of the week tell an adult what your writing says Reception: Copy the days of the week and read them to an adult.

Drawing – Follow the instructions to draw a robin

Maths – Nursery: Make a repeating pattern using two different coloured vests  Reception: Make a repeating pattern using three different coloured vests

Playdough – Nursery: Make a playdough robin Reception: Make a playdough robin and write a label with a name.

Creative – Nursery: Make a paper plate robin Reception: Make a paper plate robin and tell an adult how you made it

Outside – Nursery: Make a bird feeder Reception: Make a bird feeder and make a list of what you used

Funky Fingers – Nursery: Cut out the vest and decorate with spots Reception: Cut out the vest and use two different coloured spots to make a pattern.

Some of the Reception children completed all their challenges and their Gold Challenge – well done!

In RWInc the Reception children have been reading a ditty book and learning the sound ‘or’. The nursery children have been identifying different sounds and listening to the sound’s words start with.  In maths the Reception children have exploring pairs of numbers that make ten and the nursery children have been sorting and matching.

In our story this week robin wears a different coloured vest each day.  We all designed our own vests and the Reception children wrote a description for their robins vest.  We also learnt lots of facts about robins this week and learnt that postmen used to be called robins and that is why we sometimes see robins on post boxes on Christmas cards. In RE we learnt about the role of angels in the Christmas story.  We made our own paper angels.

Our star of the week is Bryony.  She has been doing some really good listening and following instructions.

Next week we will continue with the story ‘Little Robin Red Vest’.
